ENVIRONMENTAL AIDE 1205
Under
direct supervision, an employee in this class participates in various
non-technical phases of environmental field work. This work is of a routine nature. The incumbent's responsibilities include
making field measurements, collecting samples and tabulating data for wildlife
conservation and environmental activities.
All work is directly reviewed by supervisory personnel. Does related work a required.
TYPICAL
WORK ACTIVITIES
Disperses information relevant to
ecological management and life cycles;
Assesses and identifies changes in
plant and animal species;
Prepares species lists for use on
nature walks;
Conducts tours and briefings for
schools and interested groups for the purpose of investigation of specific
aspects of Salt Marsh ecology and environmental management;
Assists in the enforcement and
regulation of pollution controls, and ecological disturbances.
FULL
PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good
knowledge of principles of mathematics and natural sciences; working knowledge
of water sampling and relevant field measurements; working knowledge of data
collecting and tabulation for conservation and environmental studies; ability
to establish and maintain good working relationships with public officials and
commercial firms, and the general public; ability to express oneself clearly
and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with
the demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Either:
(a) Graduation from a standard
senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; or,
(b) One (1) year of experience in
environmental control; or,
(c) An equivalent combination of
education and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
