DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under direct supervision, an employee in this class assists in the detection, analysis and research aspects of compliance with the provisions of local, state and federal environmental regulations and codes. The incumbent's training is provided by supervisors who assign progressively more difficult and responsible duties according to the trainees' experience and level of professional development. All work is reviewed throughout its progress and upon completion by supervisory personnel. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Participates in
sampling and evaluating marine and surface waters, industrial and sanitary
sewage treatment systems as well as other sources of environmental pollution;
Assists in
preparing data and compiling statistics for reports on field investigations;
Prepares and
submits reports on investigations and field inspections.
FULL PERFORMANCE
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of
the principles of mathematics and the natural sciences; some knowledge of
scientific methods and procedures of monitoring and research; ability to
establish and maintain good working relations with co-workers, business
establishments, public officials and the general public; ability to exercise
judgment, tact and courtesy; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely,
both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of
the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with
a Bachelor's Degree including a minimum of thirty (30) credit hours in
mathematics and natural, physical, or environmental science.
NECESSARY SPECIAL
REQUIREMENT
At the time of
appointment, the candidate will be required to possess a valid license to
operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
