DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general supervision, an employee in this class performs scientific work in the study and evaluation of hydrologic and geologic matters.  The incumbent performs scientific observation and investigation of the conditions of water and mineral resources.  The incumbent studies the distribution, disposition and development of water and land areas, including their quality and quantity.  Work differs from that performed by a Hydrogeologist in that it is of a less technical and complex nature.  The nature of the work is such that the incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative in the performance of duties.  Supervision is received from an administrative or technical supervisor through conferences and the review of written reports and work in progress.  Does related work as required.
