DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An
employee in this class assists in the administration of comprehensive criminal
justice services planning and implementation.
The incumbent assists in the professional analysis and compilation of
data on criminal justice services and in the development of a master reference document and management
information system. The incumbent supervises
and directs the work of a professional and technical staff. Supervision is received from an
administrative supervisor through conferences and written reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assists
in the development and implementation of a comprehensive criminal justice plan;
Supervises the
compilation and analysis of criminal justice services data;
Supervises and directs
the work of a professional and technical staff;
Assists in the
coordination with related local, state and federal agencies of planning and
developing criminal justice programs;
Reviews and recommends
improvements of plans, reports and related materials involved in the planning
and implementation of criminal justice programs;
Maintains effective
cooperative working relationships with civil leaders, department heads and
public officials;
Reviews and assists in
the maintenance and updating of a management information and referral system.

CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough
knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of planning and
implementing criminal justice programs; thorough knowledge of the methods and
techniques of data compilation and analysis; thorough knowledge of effective
research methods and techniques; good knowledge of public administration;
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with civic
leaders, department heads and public officials; ability to supervise and direct
the work of a professional and technical staff; ability to assist in program
administration and implement policy decisions; ability to synthesize and
interpret data and write clear and accurate reports; ability to express oneself
clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation
from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a
Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of experience in social planning or
development, three (3) years of which must have been in criminal justice
services.
NOTE:
Additional graduate education relevant to the above experience will be
substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
PROMOTIONAL
Three
(3) years of permanent competitive status as a Planner (Criminal Justice).
