DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class supervises and coordinates the work of Minibus Drivers in a program which provides Senior Citizens with transportation to Senior Citizen Centers, medical appointments and shopping centers.  Responsibility is included for setting work schedules, dispatching drivers, and answering the office telephone to accept requests for transportation.  Work is reviewed through conferences and evaluation of user satisfaction.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Prepares minibus schedules for the transportation of Senior Citizens to Senior Citizen Centers, medical appointments and/or shopping centers;

            Prepares work schedules for Minibus Drivers;

            Adds and deletes pickups to meet the needs of Senior Citizens;

            Assists in answering telephone calls related to transportation requests;

            May operate minibus on occasion.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the geography of the area served; good knowledge of motor vehicle laws and safety precautions pertaining to minibus operation; ability to coordinate and schedule manpower and equipment available to achieve a smooth and efficient transportation program; ability to communicate effectively with Senior Citizens; ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to a high level of performance and cooperation; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to maintain accurate records; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN COMPETITIVE

            Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in a program providing transportation services to senior citizens.

 

NOTE:  Additional education from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State may be substituted for up to one (1) year of experience.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

At the time of appointment and during employment in this title, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate to the vehicles used.
