TRAFFIC SIGNAL MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR 1685
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class coordinates and
directs the work of a technical and maintenance staff engaged in the installation,
reconstruction, maintenance and repair of electric traffic signal devices and
other electric street lighting fixtures for a municipality. The incumbent works with a moderate degree
of independent decision making, and is accountable to an administrative
supervisor through conferences and written reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Supervises, through
lower level supervisors, the maintenance and repair of electric traffic signal
devices and other electric lighting fixtures, e.g., park lights and marina
light fixtures;
Participates
frequently by acting as an electrician;
Directs the
installation of pavement markings;
Directs the
storekeeping operations of the division and controls the requisitioning of
supplies and equipment;
Acts as a liaison
between engineering and administrative personnel and the field crew;
Prepares the
division’s budget for personnel and equipment;
Prepares periodic
reports on the activities of the division;
Oversees staff in
matters of their job accountability;
Maintains the
division’s personnel records;
May act as a crew
leader, supervising the functions of the division.
FULL
PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the methods, material and equipment utilized in
the reconstruction, maintenance and repair of electronic traffic signal devices
and other electric lighting fixtures; ability to effectively coordinate the use
of labor, equipment and material for maximum output; ability to read diagrams
and sketches; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of a technical and
maintenance staff in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale;
ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a
standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma,
and four (4) years of experience in the maintenance, repair and installation of
traffic signal systems, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory
capacity.
NOTE:
Additional relevant experience will be substituted for education on a year
for year basis.
