DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class performs skilled technical work associated with the use of audio-visual and computerized systems and equipment. The incumbent assists in the development of written and audio- visual presentations, the installation of computer hardware and software systems and the diagnosis and repair of computer problems. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level technical or administrative supervisor and is reviewed through periodic conferences and inspections of completed work. Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

         Assists in the development and production of films, videos and brochures;

         Writes and edits material for video and film productions;

         Operates video tape recorders, film projectors, television cameras and other related photographic and audio-visual equipment;

         Assists in the installation of computer networks;

         Designs, installs and maintains agency-specific software;

         Make recommendations for the purchase of new software and equipment;                 

         Troubleshoots and provides technical system support;

         May participate in the design and development of websites.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques used in the production of films, videos and other promotional materials; thorough knowledge of the use and operation of microcomputers and related peripheral equipment; good knowledge of the operation of videotape recorders, projectors, television cameras and other related audio-visual and photographic equipment; good knowledge of current literature, sources of information and technical developments in the computer field; ability to create and edit scripts and other written materials, ability to diagnose  computer problems and to help develop workable solutions; ability to establish good working relationships with others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;  physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

         OPEN COMPETITIVE

         Either:

(a)  Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Computer Technology, Graphic Design or a related field and two (2) years of experience in media production, website development, authoring interactive training, computer graphics or a related field; or

         (b) Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience in media production, website development, authoring interactive training, computer graphics or a related field.
