AUDIO
VISUAL SPECIALIST 1905
An
employee in this class performs highly skilled technical work in the repair,
maintenance, design, modification and operation of electro-mechanical and
electronic audiovisual equipment. This position differs from that of an Audio
Visual Technician in that the incumbent in this position is responsible for the
use and repair of more complex equipment, including color and monochrome
television cameras, motion picture and sound projectors, synchronizing audio
and radio frequency generators, and all related equipment necessary for live
studio broadcast production work. Direct supervision may be exercised over a
small number of technical and/or clerical personnel. The work is performed
under the general supervision of assigned administrative personnel and is
reviewed through conferences, the submission of required reports and an
evaluation of work performed. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL
WORK ACTIVITIES
Develops and carries out a maintenance
and repair program for all television (color and monochrome) and audiovisual
equipment, including audio and video tape recorders, mixers, amplifiers,
receivers, monitors, generators, projectors, cameras, control panels, patch
systems and test equipment;
Designs, constructs and assists in the
operation of complex electronic and electro-mechanical systems and equipment;
Acts as a technical advisor or
assistant in studio recordings, remote recordings and editing operations;
Reproduces audiovisual tapes into
other standard tape forms for distribution purposes;
Develops and carries out an
instructional program to educate others on the proper use of equipment and
general preventive maintenance procedures;
Acts as an advisor for the
administrative staff regarding the fiscal integrity of technical equipment;
Maintains records of purchases,
repairs and the maintenance of equipment and supplies;
May be required to attend training
sessions and seminars on equipment or equipment repair and usage.
FULLPERFORMANCE
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough
knowledge of the methods used in repairing, maintaining, testing and operating
electronic and electro-mechanical audiovisual equipment; thorough knowledge of
the techniques used in the design and construction of electronic and
electro-mechanical audiovisual equipment; thorough knowledge of the use and
servicing of equipment including delayed sweep oscilloscope, sweep generators,
audio generators, electronic schematics and Voltage Ohm Meter; thorough
knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary while
using high voltage equipment; some knowledge of Federal Communications
Commission rules and regulations governing electronic transmission and
receiving equipment; skill in general shop practices, including soldering,
brazing, and the laying out and construction of electronic printed circuit
boards and components; ability to detect
the causes of breakdowns in electrical and electronic equipment and to repair
broken equipment; ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare work
reports; ability to supervise the work of technical and clerical personnel in a
manner conducive to full performance and high morale; physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Five (5) years of experience in the
repair, maintenance and operation of television cameras, television receivers
or studio recording equipment.
NOTE: Vocational education related to the repair,
maintenance and operation of television cameras, television receivers or studio
recording equipment will be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis
up to maximum of two (2) years.
NECESSARY
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
At
the time of appointment and during employment in this title employees may,
dependent upon the needs and size of school district or municipal agency, be
required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York
State.
