The
work involves assisting in the design and preparation of a variety of graphic
materials used to illustrate projects and programs of a government agency or
department. Under supervision, an
employee in this class assists in the layout of public relations materials and
the preparation of visual aids used to inform residents of this jurisdiction of
services and programs. An employee in
this class follows instructions from the supervisor and at times uses limited
independent judgement. Does related
work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Cuts
and pasts basic parts of artwork used in public relations material;
Trims and cleans edges of
photographs, drawings and other artwork after pasted onto layout master;
Assists in positioning
photographs, drawings, and wording in brochures, pamphlets, and posters;
Assists in selecting the
size and type of print to be used in printed public relations material;
Performs clerical tasks
related to the final production of various manuals, brochures, and other
printed material.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Skill
in using mechanical drawing aids and other drawing tools; ability to learn
techniques of layout design; ability to determine space requirements of
photographs, drawing, and lettering by visual observation and through use of mechanical
drawing aids; ability to learn properties and characteristics of products used
in graphic and visual aids preparation; ability to visually determine
complimentary combinations of colors and size proportions; ability to follow
written and oral instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands
of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation
from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency
diploma and one year of relevant layout artist experience.
