DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general supervision, an employee in this class is involved in the creation of digital documents, and operation of a computerized copy camera and/or imagesetter to produce negatives of complex printed material. Responsibility is included for performing the initial process involved in the composition of printed or typed forms, reports, brochures and other material.  The work differs from that of a Copy Camera Operator I in the level of work performed.  Work is performed under the general supervision of assigned supervisory personnel, and is reviewed upon completion for quality of work performed.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Operates a computer with desktop publishing software to create documents for printing;

          Combines text and scanned photographs in a format appropriate for available printing processes;

          Operates a computerized copy camera and/or imagesetter to produce complex negatives;

          Processes film with an automated processor;

          May strip and opaque negative flats, including halftones and line copy;

          Makes general page layouts of printed and graphic material for brochures and reports.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the operation of a computer with desktop publishing software; thorough knowledge of the maintenance and operation of a computerized copy camera and/or imagesetter; working knowledge of film processing techniques; working knowledge of machine adjustments required in the operation of a computerized copy camera; ability to produce high quality line negatives and halftones; ability to strip and opaque negatives; ability to perform skilled work in the preparation of layouts and stripping of negative flats; ability to carry out oral and written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          OPEN COMPETITIVE

          Graduation form a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and three (3) years of experience in the maintenance and operation of computerized copy cameras, film processors and in negative flat preparation.

 

          PROMOTIONAL

          One (1) year of permanent competitive status as a Copy Camera Operator I or Composing Machine Operator.
