DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for the service, repair, installation and modification of state of the art teleproduction and multi-media equipment. Teleproduction equipment includes all equipment pertaining to broadcast and industrial television production. Multimedia equipment is defined as all equipment related to presentations and mass communications of television, sound, film, and print media. Responsibility includes the preparation of the necessary instructions for use of the equipment. Work is reviewed by an administrative supervisor through reports and evaluation of work performed. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Services, repairs,
installs and modifies state of the art teleproduction and multimedia equipment;
Modifies
and constructs necessary associated equipment;
Instructs employees and
students in the proper use of equipment;
Tests, repairs and
operates teleproduction and multimedia equipment;
Keeps detailed records of
all activities including equipment operation and repairs performed.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough
knowledge of the methods used in testing, maintaining, repairing, modifying and
constructing all teleproduction and multi-media equipment; thorough knowledge
of the use of the following equipment in service operations: delayed sweep
oscilloscopes, sweep generators, audio generators, volt ohm meters digital and
analog, vectorscope, waveform monitor, frequency counter, video test signal
generators, specialized vcr (test meters, tools, fixtures) and electronic
schematics; thorough knowledge of use and operation of teleproduction and
multi-media equipment; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and
safety precautions which must be taken for high voltage equipment; some knowledge
of the Federal Communication Commission rules and regulations governing
electronic transmission and receiving equipment; skill in electronic and
electro-mechanical shop practices; ability to diagnose and take the necessary
measures to correct the malfunction of teleproduction and multimedia equipment;
ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare work reports; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Either:
a) Graduation from a New York State or
Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in
Electronics or Electrical Engineering, and one (1) year of experience in the
operation and repair of various types of teleproduction and multimedia
equipment as defined above; or,
b) Graduation
from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with an
Associate's Degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, and three (3)
years of experience in the operation and repair of various types of
teleproduction and multimedia equipment as defined above; or,
c) Graduation from a standard senior high
school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and five (5) years
of experience in the operation and repair of various types of teleproduction
and multimedia equipment as defined above; or,
d) An equivalent combination of the above
education and experience as defined by the limits of a), b) and c).
