DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision,
an employee in this class produces and directs a school sponsored local TV
program, videotapes events of interest and provides technical services in an AV
office. The incumbent instructs
students in all aspects of television production as part of an extra-curricular
activity. Does related work as
required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Produces and directs a weekly television program in which
students participate as an extra-curricular activity;
Instructs students in
the procedures, techniques and implementation of video newscasting, including broadcast performance, writing and
speech instruction;
Videotapes school
programs, local meetings, presentations, etc. as requested;
Sets up lighting
and/or audio for auditorium use, athletic activities, graduation, Board of
Education meetings etc.
Oversees equipment
scheduling, basic repairs and coordination of outside repairs;
Assists with
preparation of district-wide audio visual equipment budget.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough
knowledge of the techniques and procedures involved in producing and directing
video programs; good knowledge of selection and editing to best serve the local
audience; good knowledge of the theory and practice of writing for video; good
knowledge of the theory and practice of public relations; some knowledge of
government regulations affecting telecasts; ability to determine the cause of
audio-visual equipment problems; ability to provide effective instruction in
all phases of television production; physical condition commensurate with the
demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a New
York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s
Degree in Communications and two years of experience as an instructor of radio/television
technology and/or manager of a television station.
