DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class supervises the activities of a number of Occupa­tional Therapists and Physical Therapists. The incumbent is responsible for carrying out a program of therapeutic intervention prescribed by a physician to facilitate the rehabilitation and/or employment of persons with a variety of physical, psychosocial and/or developmental disabilities. General supervision is received from an administrator or physician through conferences and reports. Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Plans, assigns and supervises the work of Physical Therapists and Occupa­tional Therapists;

          Evaluates the performance of Physical and Occupational Therapists through conferences, analysis of field reports, individual consultations and field observations;

          Evaluates candidates for occupational and physical therapy and makes recommendations for services;

          Schedules patients and staff for services;

          Works with physician and other team members to plan individual programs for rehabilitation of disabled patients;

          Provides therapy and works with mentally and/or physically disabled patients to develop fine motor and job skills.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, materials and equipment used in both physical and occupational therapy; thorough knowledge of possible hazards to patients during treatment and of necessary precautionary and remedial measures; thorough knowledge of sources of information, current literature and developments in the fields of occupational and physical therapy; thorough knowledge of proper care and maintenance of equipment used; ability to evaluate treatment plans of therapists and make appropriate recommendations; ability to supervise in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports; physical condition commensurate

with the demands of the position.                         

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          Open Competitive

          Two (2) years of full-time paid experience as an Occupational Therapist or two (2) years of full-time paid experience as a Physical Therapist.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

At time of appointment and during employment in this title candidates must be licensed to practice occupational therapy and physical therapy in the State of New York.
