DIRECTOR OF MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH 2441
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Plans and directs the work of the Maternal and Child Care Division of
the Health Department. Under direction
of the Suffolk County Commissioner of Health, an employee in this class is
responsible for the organization, scheduling and staffing of clinics which
serve maternal and child health needs in the County. The employee attends staff meetings and reports regularly to the
commissioner of Health on the work of the clinics, conferences and classes held
by the Maternal and Child Care Division.
Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Organizes and staffs
clinics including those for prenatal care, well-children, cardiac screening,
orthopedics, asthma and preventive medicine (polio and measles);
Organizes and staffs
classes for expectant parents;
Is responsible for
supervising the maintenance of all related attendance and accounting records;
Implements medical
policy and maintains clinic standards;
Works within the
general framework of the Suffolk County Health Department to satisfy growing
responsibilities.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of general medicine;
thorough knowledge of the medical facilities and resources available in the
County; thorough knowledge of State and local laws affecting health; ability to
plan and supervise the establishment and operation of an effective Maternal and
Child Health Program; ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with the staff, the public, physicians, public officials and all
groups interested in the Maternal and Child Health Program; physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Possession of a
license to practice medicine in the State of New York, and; four years of
experience in the practice of medicine.
