DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is responsible for the
planning and implementation of educational and clinical dental health programs
in Suffolk County. Supervision is
exercised over professional, technical and clerical staff engaged in the
delivery of dental health services. Work
is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Patient Care
Services and is reviewed through periodic conferences and written reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Administers
the Dental Health Program at all Suffolk County dental facilities;
Maintains
the Policy and Procedure Manual and instructions relating thereto, including
infection control;
Directs
the work of Dentists and dental personnel;
Oversees
quality assurance in all program dental facilities;
Provides
instruction to staff members relating to Hazardous Communication Control Plan;
Plans
and organizes preventative dental health programs and dental health education
for the Suffolk County Department of Health Services;
Reviews
Federal and State grant texts and prepares proposals following grant
guidelines;
Assists
in the review of techniques, equipment and supplies used in the dental program;
Provides
clinical dental services.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of
general dentistry; thorough knowledge of the State and local public health laws
and sanitary codes; the ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships; ability to supervise staff members in a manner conducive to full
performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely
both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of
the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN
COMPETITIVE
Graduation
from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY
State with a Doctor of Dentistry degree and eight (8) years of experience in
the practice of dentistry.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
At the
time of appointment, the candidate must be licensed by New York State to
practice dentistry. This license must be
maintained throughout employment in this title.
At the
time of appointment and throughout employment in this title, employees must
possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
Depending upon assignment,
candidates may be required to be credentialed by the Suffolk County Department
of Health Services’ Compliance Bureau Credentialing Committee, and maintain
this credential throughout employment in the assignment.
