DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under
the direction of an administrative supervisor, the employee in this class is
responsible for the coordination of services provided by a dental health
program. The employee reports regularly to supervisors through written reports
and conferences. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Coordinates
the day-to-day functioning of dental care programs by maintaining inventory of
supplies and directing supplies to various sites providing dental services;
Coordinates the
maintenance and repair of dental equipment;
Notifies administrators
of requirements in dental health facilities;
Makes recommendations
regarding equipment, instruments, supplies and working space necessary for the
satisfactory functioning of dental care facilities;
Coordinates services for
clinic patients;
Maintains liaison with
dental educational facilities in Suffolk County;
Institutes and maintains
an effective central supply system as a means of maintaining adequate supplies
in dental health facilities;
Reviews operating policy
and procedures of dental program sites;
Assists in maintaining
these sites so that they conform to regulations of local and state codes.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Good
knowledge of dental offices' policies and procedures; good knowledge of the
programs of dental clinics under the supervision of the program; knowledge of
dental instruments and equipment, their applicability and uses; knowledge of
dental facilities and resources available in the community; ability to deal
with patients, dentists, staff, other agencies and public officials in a
tactful and courteous manner; ability to evaluate and coordinate the activities
of various clinics to meet staffing and equipment requirements; ability to
express oneself clearly and concisely both orally in writing; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Two
(2) years experience in the coordination of dental services provided by the
outpatient dental department of a New York State certified hospital or the
dental program of a state certified diagnostic and treatment clinic or;
Graduation from a New
York State or Regionally accredited college or university with an Associate's
Degree in Dental Hygiene.
