DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class formulates, conducts and maintains an emergency medical training program on a countywide level. The incumbent exercises a considerable amount of independent judgment and initiative in the development of the training program, and is responsible for assuring that the necessary skills and knowledge are taught. Supervision may be exercised over training activities for all related areas. Work is reviewed by an administrative supervisor through reports, conferences and the attainment of objectives. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Researches and compiles pertinent data relating to the
training of ambulance personnel in emergency treatment procedures;
Selects qualified personnel to serve
as instructors in the training program;
Arranges for the availability of
facilities in which to hold the classes, and issues notification and meeting
announcements;
Supervises the planning and
scheduling of lessons;
Supplies necessary publications and
equipment essential to course coordinator to insure thorough instruction;
Supervises the maintenance of master
records on student attendance and performance;
Acts as a liaison for information
concerning the training program with community groups and all others
participating.
FULL PERFORMANCE
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and
techniques of emergency treatment procedures; thorough knowledge of literature,
equipment and other materials needed in the instruction of emergency medical
treatment procedures; good knowledge of recent developments in the field of
emergency medical treatment; good knowledge of the long-term needs of the
County with regard to emergency medical treatment facilities; ability to plan
and develop curricular and lesson plans; ability to establish and maintain
successful relationships with people; ability to prepare and write clear and
concise reports; ability to prepare and maintain accurate records; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
a) Graduation from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a
Bachelor's Degree, and two (2) years of full time experience in organizing and
training ambulance personnel; or,
b) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized
accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree, and six (6)
years of experience as a volunteer in organizing and training ambulance
personnel; or,
c) Graduation from a standard senior
high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and six (6)
years of full time experience as a certified paramedic involved in organizing
and training ambulance personnel; or,
d) An equivalent combination of
education and experience as defined by the limits of a), b), and c).
PROMOTIONAL
One (1) year of permanent
competitive status as an Emergency Medical Services Officer.
NECESSARY SPECIAL
REQUIREMENT
Candidates must
possess Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC) certification issued by NYS
Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services at the time of
appointment. The CIC certification must
be maintained throughout employment in this title.
