CRISIS
INTERVENTION WORKER 3015
Under general supervision, an
employee in this class is responsible for providing direct guidance,
supervision and crisis intervention to emotionally challenged students in Little
Flower School District. The incumbent
assists the professional teaching staff and other school personnel in
monitoring the activities of students on the school grounds, and may be
involved in escorting students within the district or to district events. Work is performed using independent judgment
and discretion and is supervised by an administrator. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Monitors
interactions among students and intervenes when necessary, i.e., student
altercations escalating to physical actions;
Provides
crisis intervention and prevention when appropriate;
Assists
school personnel in crisis intervention;
Escorts
students and monitors the movement of students between classes and other areas
within the school buildings and grounds;
Records
and maintains routine records and logs of attendance, incident reports,
absences without leave, time out, etc…;
Participates
in staff meetings, and may testify at Superintendent’s Hearings;
May
monitor students on the school bus to ensure safety of all students;
May
participate in transporting students to school facilities;

Good knowledge and understanding of
children with special behavioral and emotional needs; good knowledge of crisis
intervention and prevention techniques; ability to establish a good rapport
with children and youth and to work effectively and with sensitivity in
providing assistance; ability to act calmly and effectively in emergency situations;
ability to carry out oral and written instructions; ability to express oneself
clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN
COMPETITIVE
Either:
a) Graduation from a standard senior
high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and thirty (30)
credits from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration
by NY State, including six (6) credits in psychology, social work, behavioral
sciences or related field; or
b) Graduation from a standard senior
high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year
of experience working with children and youth with behavioral or emotional
problems in a community organization or school setting; or
c) An equivalent combination of
education and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
NECESSARY SPECIAL
REQUIREMENT
At
the time of appointment and during employment in this title employees must
possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
