DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The
work involves responsibility for the supervision, coordination, and management
of an educational program for Suffolk County departments or jurisdictions. The employee in this class supervises and
coordinates an education program and is responsible for assisting in the
planning of in-service staff training, observing and consulting with program
directors, assisting in the development of curriculum and interpreting
educational goals. The work is
performed under the general direction of assigned supervisory personnel and is
reviewed through conferences and consultations. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Coordinates,
manages, and supervises the educational programs of Suffolk County departments
or jurisdictions;
May supervise and
evaluate staff performance and effectiveness;
Performs classroom
observations and consults with program directors regarding general educational
programs and curriculum improvements;
Provides information to
educational groups and administrators in the form of lectures, discussions and
presentation of informational materials;
Provides supervisor with
information regarding response to the program, recommends changes as needed;
Schedules, organizes and
conducts presentations to school and community groups within the jurisdiction;
Assesses members targeted
by the program and identifies educational needs and resources;
Assists and participates
in the development of curriculum and methods to promote positive learning
experiences in the educational environment;
Provides services to new
delegate agencies in designing the educational components of the program;
Assists in the
preparation of periodic departmental reports.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough
knowledge of the methods, theories and practices involved in developing
educational programs, good knowledge of current trends, developments and
sources of information in the field of education; ability to utilize knowledge
of state and local laws governing the administration of the program being
implemented; ability to coordinate, direct and supervise personnel; ability to
analyze staff performance and assist in the planning of in-service staff
training; ability to develop curriculum and interpret educational goals; good
judgment; tact; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation
from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a
Bachelor's Degree in Education, and three years of experience as an educator or
in pupil personnel services.
NOTE:
Relevant additional education from a New York State or regionally
accredited college or university will be substituted for experience on a
year-for-year basis.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Candidates
must possess a Teaching Certificate issued by the New York State Department of
Education.
