FEATURES OF THE CLAS
An employee in
this class is responsible for assisting the Social Services Training Administrator
in coordinating agency-wide training and development programs for department
staff and vendors where appropriate. The incumbent conducts studies to assess
training needs and assists in the development of orientation and ongoing
training programs. Supervision may be exercised over employees performing
specialized clerical duties. Work is
performed under the general supervision of the Social Services Training
Administrator, or other high level administrator responsible for personnel
training, and is reviewed through observation and review of reports. Does
related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Assists
the Social Services Training Administrator with the development and
implementation of training programs;
Coordinates
with division training liaisons to schedule trainings;
Assists
in coordinating enrollment, transportation, and lodging for staff attending
out-of-town seminars;
Conducts NYS Defensive Driver Training classes;
Assists
the Social Services Training Administrator with the preparation of reports;
Coordinates
with New York State and training agencies to schedule sessions, track
enrollment and attendance;
Maintains
and monitors the Department’s training records.

Thorough
knowledge of the methods and procedures of developing and conducting staff
training and development programs; thorough knowledge of stress management
techniques; thorough knowledge of federal, state and local social services laws
and programs as they affect eligibility for financial assistance; thorough
knowledge of the department's overall programs, policies and procedures;
ability to plan and develop curricula and lesson plans, and to instruct
personnel in subjects designed to improve their performance; ability to
communicate and deal effectively with others; ability to plan, coordinate,
manage and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full
performance and high morale; ability to prepare reports; ability to express
oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; initiative; tact;
good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
a) Graduation from a college with
federally authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a
Bachelor’s Degree, and three (3) years of experience in a position involving
social services assistance programs. This experience must have included one (1)
year in the formulation, development, and facilitation of staff training
programs in a NYS public social services agency; or,
b) Graduation from a college with
federally authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with an Associate’s
Degree, and five (5) years of experience in a position involving social
services assistance programs. This experience must have included two (2) years
in the formulation, development, and facilitation of staff training programs in
a NYS public social services agency.
