DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under direct supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for caring for pre-schoolers including infants and toddlers, in a child care program.  The incumbent performs responsible work in supervising babies and young children, using good judgment and interacting well with them.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Monitors the activities of young children and assists in their routine care;

          Feeds babies and toddlers enrolled in the program;

          Changes diapers of those infants and pre-schoolers not toilet trained;

          Reports any problems observed to the supervisor;

          Participates in group activities for young children.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Ability to care for pre-school children including infants and toddlers; ability to maintain order; ability to observe and report incidents accurately;  good judgment;  physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          Either:

(a) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma or,

 

(b)Six (6) months of experience in infant and\or toddler care.

 

 

NOTE: Completion of six (6) months experience and/or training in infant and/or toddler care is required if assigned to care for six week to three year olds.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Employees in this title must be at least sixteen (16) years old at time of appointment.
