DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under direct supervision, an employee in this class assists in gathering and compiling information pertinent to program management and administrative studies, the preparation of mandated reports and the development of the bureau's policies and forms.  The work involves considerable contact with representatives of service providers, school districts, consultants, program participants, community organizations and the general public.  While learning the operations and goals of the program, the incumbent receives close supervision and guidance.  Once experience is gained in the position, the incumbent will be expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative in carrying out assigned duties.  Supervision is received from an administrative supervisor.  Work is reviewed through conferences, consultations and written reports.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Collects data and information pertinent to program management and administrative studies;

          Reviews, distributes and maintains current legislation and regulations regarding bureau's programs and studies;

          Gathers, from a variety of sources, information relevant to the bureau's policies and programs;

          Assists in the preparation of reports required by federal, state and local government agencies;

          Assists in the development and maintenance of program procedures;

          Attends conferences, inter-departmental and public meetings to obtain information for use by program administrators;

          May supervise a support staff;

          May visit schools, community organizations, civic groups and service providers.

Ability to express ideas and impart information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to analyze and organize data and to prepare reports; ability to establish effective working relationships with associates and representatives of other agencies, community groups and the general public; ability to effectively supervise a support staff; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; good judgment; tact; courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either:

(a)  Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree, or;

(b)  Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with an Associate's Degree and two (2) years of experience in program development or in conducting managerial or operational research studies, or;

(c)  An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b). 

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

At the time of appointment and during employment in this title employees must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
