DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class is responsible for assisting occupational education teachers in monitoring and evaluating participants in various fieldwork placements.  The incumbent is responsible for gathering routine information from the employers and for assisting the participants in adjusting to their fieldwork placement.  Responsibility is also included for contacting potential employers to ascertain their interest in participating in the program.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Visits work sites with the assigned teacher to obtain information from the employer regarding the duties of the specific fieldwork placement;

            Contacts potential employers to inform them of the program and to ascertain their interest in participating;

            Assists the teacher in preparing a job analysis specifying all job requirements and performance goals;

            Assists the teacher in helping the program participant to adjust to the field work placement by providing on-site instruction to workers on specific job skills and responsibilities; assists participants with socialization skills at lunch and break time;

            Assists teachers in showing students how to use public transportation;

            Accompanies students on job interviews;

            Maintains records on worker performance problems and methods for remediation through continued training at the work site;

            Provides input regarding the job performance of the participant through participation in program review meetings.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE, KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Some knowledge of handicapping conditions and the resultant impact on vocational placement; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to gain and hold the confidence of and to maintain a patient and understanding attitude toward school children; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to maintain records; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN COMPETITIVE

            Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

At the time of appointment, and during employment in this title, employees will be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
