DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for placing graduates in jobs in private industry as well as public and private agencies.  The incumbent identifies compatible employers and places graduates, maintaining contact with both to ensure mutual satisfaction.  Support is also sought and maintained for cooperative education programs and job development for students and graduates.  Supervision may be exercised over a small clerical staff.  Work is subject to review by an administrative superior through conferences and reports.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Communicates with industries regarding current occupational training programs and identifies current employment needs;

            Obtains support for employment and/or training in both public and private sectors;

            Assists students and graduates in locating employment by matching individuals having appropriate skills with job openings;

            Develops procedures and implements follow-up on employers and placed employees to ensure that all guidelines and applicable laws are adhered to;

            Follows up after placement for feedback from employer and employee;

            Maintains records on employers, students, and graduates;

            Prepares reports on progress of trainees in the on-the-job training program and sponsors in implementing the program. 

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the principles and practices involved in planning and developing job placement programs; good knowledge of the principles and practices involved in planning and developing on-the-job training programs; good knowledge of local employers, business trends and industry needs; good knowledge of employee recruitment practices and techniques; working knowledge of industrial and labor relations practices and pertinent laws; ability to obtain and develop support for job placement and on-the-job training programs; ability to establish and maintain good public relations and effective communication with all program participants; ability to identify employment problems and recommend workable solutions; ability to supervise others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to prepare reports; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree, and two (2) years of personnel experience in one of the following:

(1)Personnel selection and placement

(2)Occupational guidance

(3)Development or implementation of occupational training in a formal training program

(4)Public administration

(5)Labor management or employee relations

 

 

NOTE:  Satisfactory experience in above areas will be substituted for education on a year-for-year
             basis.
