FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is responsible for the development of new volunteer programs within the Suffolk County Skilled Nursing Facility and the coordination of existing programs. The incumbent is responsible for recruiting volunteers to work within the facility and providing for their training and supervision. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with the organizational goals of the facility. Work is reviewed by an administrative supervisor through conferences and assessment of program effectiveness. Does related work as required.

ACTIVITIES
Plans, develops and implements the
volunteer program for the Suffolk County Skilled Nursing Facility;
Acts as a liaison between the facility
and the community in recruiting volunteers to work within the facility;
Develops and coordinates training
programs for volunteers;
Interviews and recommends placement for
volunteers;
Keeps records and prepares reports on
program activities.

PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge
of the principles and methods used in volunteer program development; good
knowledge of the procedures used in carrying out effective training programs;
knowledge of recent developments, literature and sources of information
relative to volunteer programs; ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with volunteers, co-workers, and representatives of
community and government agencies; ability to express oneself clearly and
concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to maintain records and prepare
reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
