DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under direct supervision.  An employee in this class provides part-time services to on-campus personnel of the Suffolk County Community College under the Federal Work Study Program.  The incumbent performs work of a clerical nature in an on-campus department.  Direct supervision is received from an immediate supervisor who shall review work in progress and upon completion.  Does related work as required.

           

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Performs routine clerical tasks in faculty and administrative offices such as typing, filing, and operating office duplicating machines and audio visual equipment as well as performing some stenographic responsibilities;

            May prepare and set up apparatus, equipment, and instructional materials prior to classroom or laboratory session and dismantles, cleans, and stores equipment after use;

            May issue physical education equipment to students and collects this equipment after use;

            May assist in the library by filing cards in the card catalog, checking book lists, shelving books, and helping at the charge-out desk;

            May correct objective-type examination papers;

            May operate duplicating machine and assist the Printing Department in collating, paper punching, and binding paper;

            May assist in the operation of the Language Laboratory;

            May assist the Mail Department in the delivery of mail and parcels.

 

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Some knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic; some knowledge of general office terminology, procedures, equipment and clerical techniques; ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the methods, principles and techniques involved in the work; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to work well within the framework of a variety of assigned tasks which differ substantially with one another.

 

           

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            Full-time enrollment in the Suffolk County Community College under the provisions of the Work Study Program.
