DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The work involves performing a variety of assignments in diverse programs of County or local government.  The Work Intern is enrolled in an accredited internship program at a local college and earns college credit for satisfactory job performance.  Types of assignments are correlated to the college program of study.  Supervision is received from an administrative superior through con­ferences, reports and evaluations of completed projects.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Observes and participates in the daily activities of a particular depart­ment or agency;

          Collects data for research projects, surveys, studies or special programs;

          Conducts an independent study project to earn college credit, while using the government office as a classroom;

          Analyzes, interprets and/or reports findings of project surveys, studies or special programs in oral or written form, as required;

          Assumes responsibility for a particular project, under general staff guidance.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Working knowledge of statistical concepts and methods; ability to under­stand modern public administration procedures; ability to acquire familiarity with policies, regulations, practices and functions of the jurisdiction to which assigned; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to analyze facts and exercise judgment and initiative; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

           Enrollment in an accredited internship program at a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university.
