DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An
employee in this class is responsible for supervising the work and coordinating
the duty assignments of personnel at various posts in recreation facilities .
Supervision is exercised over Park Attendants who direct traffic in parking
fields and collect boat ramp, parking and other special fees. Controls are kept
by the Senior Park Attendant over the number of use permits issued and the
collected fees are reconciled and deposited for the municipality. Other duties
include coordinating schedules in order to assure that each duty station has
the proper number of employees assigned to each shift. Work is reviewed through
conferences and written reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Supervises
the work of personnel who direct traffic and collect the fees for boat ramps,
parking and other recreational usage;
Prepares schedules for
the assignment of personnel to duty stations;
Receives all monies
collected from each facility daily and deposits the funds;
Reconciles the number of
use permits issued against the amounts of monies received and maintains the
necessary accounting records for receipts and deposits;
Investigates complaints
and answers requests or questions from the general public about the personnel,
fee schedules and regulations at recreation facilities;

CHARACTERISTICS
Ability
to analyze personnel needs, arrive at sound conclusions and make
recommendations; ability to train, supervise and review the work of subordinate
personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to
prepare periodic reports about the financial and personnel activities of
recreation facilities; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both
orally and in writing; ability to establish effective working relationships
with administrative superiors and to deal tactfully and courteously with the
public; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation
from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency
diploma and one (1) year experience in a position which includes supervisory
duties over a subordinate staff. Supervisory experience should include areas
such as: scheduling personnel, determining work flow, analysis of staff needs,
training of personnel or review of subordinate work.
Additional relevant
experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession
of a valid motor vehicle operators license issued by the State of New York upon
appointment.
