DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under
general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for supervising
the activities of employees engaged in maintaining the cleanliness of
buildings, collecting fees, policing the area and enforcing the rules and
regulations of a municipal golf course.
The incumbent is responsible for handling public relations problems that
may develop, and for assuring that the public and employees conform to the
rules and regulations of the golf course. This position differs from that of
Golf Course Manager in that it does not involve responsibility for the
maintenance of the turf and grounds.
Supervision is received from an administrative supervisor through
conferences and reports. Does related
work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Supervises
and schedules the work of clerical, custodial and maintenance personnel at a
golf course;
Supervises the collection
of golf course fees and the maintenance of necessary accounting records;
Investigates complaints
and answers requests for information from the general public;
Enforces golf course
rules and regulations personally and through staff;
Makes regular inspections
to insure the maintenance of golf course facilities in a clean and sanitary
condition;
Makes recommendations for
the improvement of the services at the golf course.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Good
knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of golf course
management; good knowledge of the game of golf; knowledge of the methods and
techniques of effective supervision; ability to establish effective
relationships with the general public; ability to make sound judgments in
resolving problems that might develop in public relations on the golf course;
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN-COMPETITIVE
Either:
a) Graduation from a New York State or
Regionally accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree, and one
(1) year of supervisory experience in golf course operation or management; or,
b) Graduation from a standard senior high school
or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and three (3) years of
experience in golf course operation or management, one (1) year of which must
have been in a supervisory capacity; or,
c) An equivalent combination of education and
experience and as defined by the limits of a) and b).
