DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class is responsible for assisting the Golf Course Supervisor in supervising the activities of employees engaged in maintaining the cleanliness of buildings, collecting fees, policing the area and enforcing the rules and regulations of a municipal golf course.  The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the handling of public relations problems that may develop, and for assuring that the public and employees conform to the rules and regulations of the golf course. This position does not involve responsibility for the maintenance of the turf and grounds. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed by an administrative supervisor through conferences and reports.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

       Assists in supervising and scheduling the work of clerical, custodial and building  maintenance personnel at a golf course;

       Assist in supervising the collection of golf course fees and the maintenance of necessary accounting records;

       Assists in the investigation complaints and answers requests for information from the general public;

       Assists in enforcing golf course rules and regulations personally and through staff;

      

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of golf course management; good knowledge of the game of golf; knowledge of the methods and techniques of effective supervision; ability to establish effective relationships with the general public; ability to make sound judgments in resolving problems that might develop in public relations on the golf course; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

       OPEN-COMPETITIVE

       Either:

       a) Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree, and one (1) year of experience in golf course operation or management; or,

      

       b) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and two (2) years of experience in golf course operation or management; or,

      

       c) An equivalent combination of education and experience and as defined by the limits of a) and b).
