DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general supervision, an employee is this class is responsible for supervising the activities of employees engaged in assisting residents in the game of golf.  Incumbent is responsible for handling public relations and insuring the public and employees conform to the rules and regulations of the golf course.  This position differs from Golf Course Supervisor in that incumbent must play golf on the professional level and be a member of the Professional Golf Association(PGA). Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Supervises, directs and schedules the activities of the Assistant Golf Professional and the staff that maintains the pro shop, locker rooms and golf cart rentals;

            Enforces golf course rules and regulations personally and through staff; settles rule disputes;

            Plans and conducts member and charitable golf tournaments; participates in tournaments when requested on a professional level;

            Enforces club policies for members and guests, oversees the collection of fees and marks golf course according to regulations set down by the PGA;

            Makes recommendations for the improvement of services at the golf course.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of golf course management; professional level knowledge of the game of golf; ability to supervise in a manner conducive to high morale; ability to establish a working relationship with public officials and the general public; ability to teach golf to individuals and groups of all ages; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and five (5) years of experience as a Golf Professional.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Proof of Professional Golf Association certification must be maintained throughout the course of employment in this title.
