DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under
general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for maintaining a
special park facility of unique responsibilities. The incumbent is also responsible for all the recreational
facilities, auxiliary units and ground equipment within the particular
parkland. Supervision is exercised over
a substantial number of subordinate employees in the maintenance and operation
of the facility. Work is reviewed by
administrative superiors through periodic conferences, written reports and
inspection of the facilities.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Marina:
Maintains marina docks in
good repair and makes routine checks on docking area with respect to the
observance of safety precautions, dumping of refuse improperly and obstacles to
the docks;
Supervises the
maintenance and repair of all park facilities such as utility buildings, rest
rooms, locker rooms, and showers;
Maintains refuse dumping
station in working order and instructs boat owners in its use; inspects boats
for proper disposal of waste material to protect against pollution;
Installs and maintains
bubble systems in marina to protect facilities;
Checks boats at marina
berths to ensure proper mooring and lines;
May maintain and repair
swimming pool; treats pool water with prescribed chemicals.
Campsite
Supervises campground;
Oversees assignment of
individual campsites, group camping areas and youth group camping
facilities;
May be responsible for
collection and deposit of funds related to campsites.
Trap and Skeet Area:
Maintains and oversees
the daily operation of trap and skeet shooting facilities;
Supervises the
maintenance and repair of all the park facilities within the trap and skeet
area;
Maintains an adequate
amount of targets and shells, oversees the placing and storage of same;
Organizes trap and skeet
shoots for individuals and clubs;
Oversees the placing and selling
of gun pro shop equipment;
Ovesees the buying and
distribution of trophies.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Marina:
Thorough knowledge of
marina facilities and the practices and techniques necessary for their
operation and maintenance; thorough knowledge of the State and local laws and
regulations governing the proper disposal of waste in marine areas; good
knowledge of swimming pool facilities and the methods of treatment used to maintain
them in a sanitary condition.
Campsite:
Thorough knowledge of
camp facilities; good knowledge to organize and maintain a campsite; arithmetic
computation ability necessary to collect and account for camping fees.
Trap and Skeet Area:
Thorough knowledge of
trap and skeet shooting facilities; thorough knowledge of the practices and
procedures necessary for the operation of a trap and skeet shooting facility;
good knowledge to organize and maintain a trap and skeet shooting equipment
shop.
Applicable to Marina,
Campsite, and Trap and Skeet Area:
Good knowledge of the
practices and techniques of maintaining and repairing buildings and
grounds; ability to plan and supervise
the work of subordinate maintenance staff in a manner conducive to full
performance and high morale; ability to enforce regulations with firmness,
tact, impartiality and to deal courteously with the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from a
standard high school and five years of:
Marina:
Experience in the
performance or direction of a variety of marina operations and maintenance
activities; or,
Campsite:
Experience in the
performance or direction of a variety of campsite operations and maintenance
activities; or,
Skeet and Trap
Shooting:
Experience in the
performance or direction of a variety of skeet and trap or gun club operations
and maintenance activities; or,
Satisfactory equivalent
combination of the above education and experience applicable to Marina,
Campsite, and Trap and Skeet Area.
