DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is responsible for coordinating the activities
and operations of the parks maintained for public use by
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Confers with Parks
Department personnel concerning plans for development of recreational areas
and/or alterations of park areas, and makes recommendation to the Commissioner
on possible alternatives;
Assigns new programs for
each park to start development of new parks while continuing the maintenance of
existing parks;
Lays out work programs
and instructs subordinates in the implementation of new work projects; assigns
men and equipment from existing parks;
Maintains inventories of
park equipment;
Makes recommendations for
the proper protection of newly acquired park property and reviews it for
natural areas which lend themselves to the development of recreational
activities;
May represent the
Department, speaking before various organizations and conferences.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques used
in the development of park activities and operations; comprehensive knowledge
of the operational and maintenance requirements of the County park facilities
and equipment; thorough knowledge of effective supervisory techniques; good
knowledge of how to layout and assign work details for new projects and to
direct their implementation in a manner conducive to full performance and high
morale; ability to establish and maintain both accurate and complete records;
ability to plan for and project the future needs of the Department; ability to
express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from high
school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and ten (10) years of
experience in the supervision or administration of a variety of park and ground
maintenance activities including six (6) years in the supervision of park
activities, two (2) years of which must have included the supervision of grounds
maintenance activities.

Education at a regionally accredited or

Two (2) years of permanent
competitive status as a Park Supervisor III.
