DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE
CLASS
Under
supervision, an employee in this class assists in supervising a large and
varied staff engaged in serving and safeguarding persons who use town beaches
and parks. The incumbent acts on behalf
of the Town Park Supervisor when delegated.
Responsibility includes the supervision in the repair of buildings,
boardwalks and parking lots of the beaches and the maintenance of the grounds,
ballfields and playground equipment in the parks. The incumbent may also assist in the ordering
of supplies, preparing the annual budget and the preparation of reports on facility
use and projected needs. The employee
will assist in maintaining personnel, supply and financial records. Supervision is received from the Town Park
Supervisor and work is reviewed through conferences and written records and
reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assists
in supervising beach attendants, lifeguards, guards and other personnel engaged
in serving and safeguarding the public using town beaches;
Assists
in supervising maintenance and groundskeeping personnel involved in the maintenance
and repair of the grounds, ballfields, playground equipment, and tennis courts
of town parks;
Assists
in the inspection and requisitioning of supplies for general maintenance and
repair of all beach facilities, installations and equipment during the
off-season;
Prepares
reports on beach and park activities;
May
attend administrative conferences and discusses needs and accomplishments of
the beaches and parks;
Assists
in the preparation of the annual budget for the department;
Assists
in maintaining personnel and time records of the employees;
Acts
on behalf of the Town Park Supervisor when delegated.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES,
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good
knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of beach and park
management; some knowledge of the operational and maintenance requirements of
typical beach and park facilities and equipment; ability to establish and
maintain effective work relationships with the general public; ability to keep records
and to prepare and submit reports; ability to plan, supervise and review the
work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale;
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN-COMPETITIVE
Graduation
from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency
diploma and three (3) years of experience in park supervision or
administration.
