FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general
supervision, an employee in this class supervises Senior Airport Security
Guards and Airport Security Guards at a municipal airport. Work involves
assigning security forces to their stations and inspecting their performance of
duties. The incumbent enforces federal,
state and local laws to protect the lives, property and legal rights of the
public and is responsible for exercising sound judgment in emergencies. Supervision is received from the Airport
Security Supervisor through observations of work and conferences. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Supervises Senior Airport Security
Guards and Airport Security Guards engaged in security operations to ensure
compliance with Federal Air Regulations;
Instructs and trains Senior Airport
Security Guards and Airport Security Guards in Federally mandated security
methods;
Assigns security forces to their
posts;
Gives information and assistance to
the general public;
Evaluates work performance and makes
recommendations for improvements;
Performs technical and
administrative duties to ensure that appropriate security measures are taken in
the performance of security operations.
FULL PERFORMANCE
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of
the policies, rules and regulations governing the security of a municipal
airport; good knowledge of airport facilities and schedules; knowledge of Transportation
Security Regulations, Part 1542; ability to assign and supervise the work of
personnel in a manner conducive to positive work performance; ability to analyze facts, arrive at sound conclusions and
make recommendations; ability to
react quickly and effectively to emergencies; physical condition commensurate
with the demands of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS
PROMOTIONAL
Two (2) years of permanent
competitive status as a Senior Airport Security Guard.
NECESSARY SPECIAL
REQUIREMENTS
(1)
At the time of appointment and during employment in this title,
employees must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York
State.
(2)
Possession of a valid Suffolk County Pistol Permit at the time of
appointment, and must maintain the permit throughout employment in this title.
(3) Candidates must have a CPR/AED Course
certification given by the American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent
health care provider at time of appointment and must maintain this
certification throughout employment in this title.
