DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class performs specialized
duties relating to identification and security for airport employees, tenants
and visitors. Work primarily involves record
maintenance, processing of paperwork for background checks, and preparation of
identification documents. Positions in the class require contact with employees
and the general public. Work is
performed under the general supervision of the Airport Security Supervisor and
is reviewed for content and accuracy.
Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Records,
into a database, security information such as names and IDs for the security
alarm system, access codes, security class schedules, fingerprinting
information, and photo ID card production records;
Utilizes
the New York State Police Information System (NYSPIN) to check for outstanding
warrants;
Processes
the paperwork received for background checks;
Develops
and maintains the airport parking permit database and issues parking permits;
Develops
and maintains an airport vehicle registration system;
Takes
photographs and prepares badges, passes, and identification cards for various
personnel;
Monitors
an alarm system for security breaches;
May
fingerprint workers.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS,
ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of office terminology,
procedures, equipment and clerical techniques; good knowledge of airport
security databases; good knowledge of airport security procedures and
protocols; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
ability to learn assigned tasks and to adhere to prescribed departmental
routines; ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers,
supervisors and the general public; physical condition commensurate with the
demands of the position.
