DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class assists in directing the security unit of a large township. Work involves contact with department heads as well as the general public. Supervision is exercised over a large number of security, inspection and clerical personnel. Work is performed under the direction of the Special Services Manager and is reviewed through conferences and written reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Assists in administering the
security operation of a large town to provide protection of town buildings and
facilities;
Receives and evaluates reports of
damage and vandalism to town property; prepares reports and notifies
appropriate authorities;
Assists in the preparation and
revision of procedural manuals for town security programs and the annual budget
related to these programs;
Directs the installation of alarm
systems on town property;
Supervises the photographing,
fingerprinting and character checks of town employees and taxi driver
applicants; supervises safety inspections of licensed tow trucks.

Thorough
knowledge of effective security measures; thorough knowledge of town facilities
and geography; thorough knowledge of applicable laws and ordinances; ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with town officials and
with the public; ability to train and supervise clerical and security personnel
in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to analyze
facts, arrive at reasonable conclusions and make sound recommendations; ability
to keep accurate records and prepare reports; ability to express oneself
clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from high school or
possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and four years of experience
in security enforcement and operations, at least two years of which must have
been in a supervisory capacity.
NOTE: Additional education may be substituted for
non-supervisory experience on a year-for-year basis.
NECESSARY SPECIAL
REQUIREMENTS
At the time of
appointment and during employment in this title, the incumbent must possess a
valid New York State driver’s license.
