DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The work involves performing
responsible administrative and supervisory duties in directing the security
unit of a large township. The employee
has contact with department heads as well as the general public. Supervision is
exercised over a large number of security inspection and clerical
personnel. Work is performed under the
general direction of an administrative superior and is reviewed through
conferences and written reports. Does
related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Administers the security operation of a
large town for the protection of town buildings and facilities;
Receives
and evaluates reports of damage and vandalism to town property, prepares reports
and notifies appropriate authorities;
Prepares
and revises procedural manual for town security program, issues general orders
and prepares annual budget;
Interviews
and recommends personnel to be hired to administrative superiors;
Supervises
the photographing, fingerprinting and character checks of town employees, taxi
driver applicants and safety inspections of licensed tow trucks.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS,
ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of town facilities
and geography; good knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of
modern office administration; good knowledge of security principles, practices
and techniques; ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of laws and ordinances of
the town; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with town
officials and general public; ability to analyze facts, arrive at sound
conclusions and make recommendations; ability to plan, assign and supervise the
work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale;
ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing;
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN
COMPETITIVE
Either:
a)
Graduation
from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a
Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of administrative experience in security
enforcement and operations; or,
b)
Graduation
from a standard senior high school or possession of an equivalency diploma
recognized by the New York State Department of Education and six (6) years
experience in security enforcement and operations, three (3) years of which
must have been in an administrative capacity; or,
c)
An
equivalent combination of the above education and experience as defined by the
limits of a) and b).
PROMOTIONAL
One
(1) year permanent competitive status as an Assistant Special Services Manager.
