DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class is involved in performing preliminary office or field review of site plans to determine compliance with zoning codes and prescribed design specifi­cations.  Plans are subsequently reviewed by the Site Plan Reviewer and pertain to individual, residential and commercial buildings and adjacent  roadways.  This position differs from that of Site Plan Reviewer because it involves a lesser degree of responsibility.  The incumbent's work is reviewed by the Site Plan Reviewer or another administrative supervisor through conferences and written reports.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Assists the Site Plan Reviewer by doing preliminary reviews of site plans to determine compliance with zoning codes and prescribed design specifications;

          Does research in office records for covenants affecting specific site plans;

          Answers, in person or by telephone, site related questions posed by the public;

          Supervises technical and clerical personnel;

          Assists in the preparation of bi-monthly reports for the Planning Board meetings.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of town zoning codes and town design standards; working knowledge of the appropriate placement of buildings, streets, sidewalks, and parking areas; some knowledge of landscape design; ability to read and interpret technical draft plans, maps, charts and blueprints; ability, upon viewing construction site, to ascertain facts in relation to town zoning codes; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          OPEN COMPETITIVE

          Either:

          a)  Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree, and two (2) years of experience in civil engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, drafting, zoning inspection, site plan review or a related field; or,

         

          b)  Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and four (4) years of experience as described in a); or,

         

          c)  An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of a) and b).
