DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under direct
supervision, an employee in this class inspects licensed tow trucks in a town
to determine their compliance with equipment requirements mandated by Town
Codes. The incumbent handles complaints concerning unlicensed taxis and
drivers. Work is supervised and reviewed through conferences and written
reports to supervisors. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Inspects tow trucks for compliance
with Town Codes pertaining to emergency equipment carried;
Researches complaints of unlicensed
cabs and/or drivers, interviews parties involved, submits reports on findings;
Issues medallions for cabs after Town
Clerk has approved application, maintains records of medallions issued;
Fingerprints and photographs all
town employees and taxi drivers, maintains files and records.

Ability to
understand and interpret Town Codes and Ordinances; ability to obtain
information through observations and interviews; ability to deal tactfully and
courteously with the general public; ability to express oneself clearly and
concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the
demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Either:
a) Graduation from a standard senior
high school, or vocational school in a job related field, or possession of a
high school equivalency diploma, and two (2) years of experience in inspection
or code enforcement work; or,
b) Six (6) years of experience as
described above; or,
c) An equivalent combination of
education and experience as defined by the limits of a) and b).
NECESSARY
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
At the time of
appointment, and during employment in this title, employees must possess a
valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State, or otherwise
demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation requirements of the job.
