SAFETY &
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT MANAGER 5363
An
employee in this class is responsible for providing various administrative
services for BOCES. Responsibility is included for supervising health and
safety programs and special projects in food service, public relations and
school business official programs offered as a cooperative service through
BOCES. Work is performed under the supervision of an administrative supervisor
and is reviewed through periodic conferences and reports. Does related work as
required.
Advises and provides
assistance to BOCES and component district staff to ensure that applicable
health, safety and environmental regulations and procedures are followed;
Develops
workshops and corresponding materials on health and safety for component
districts and BOCES;
Develops,
implements, and promotes the internal BOCES Safety Management Program;
Assists
with development, preparation, and implementation of the health and safety
program budget;
Meets with representatives of
component districts and program participants to provide advice, technical
assistance, training and resources related to compliance activities associated
with health and safety;
Interacts with various organizations
associated with health and safety;
Participates in
interviewing and hiring, and training Health and Safety personnel;
Assists
and advises building administrators with staff and student health and safety
issues;
Reviews purchase
requisitions from health and safety staff, assists with the preparation of bids
and purchase orders, and meets with vendors to discuss supply and equipment
needs;
Assists
with the work of business officials and food service administrators assigned to
component districts;
Assists in
supervising and performing public relations work for assigned districts;
Assists with
special projects in the areas of district based business services;
Assists in the preparation of budgets for the school business
official, public relations and food service programs;
Insures
that all programs are in compliance with applicable laws.
FULL
PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough
knowledge of Public Employee Occupational Safety and Health Act and/or the
Federal Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act standards and regulations;
thorough knowledge of the proper use and availability of safety equipment,
clothing and vehicles; good knowledge of modern office management and
organization; good knowledge of the principles and procedures of public
administration and budget preparation; good knowledge of ;ability to develop a
good working relationship with employees, and gain their cooperation in the
establishment and maintenance of a sound safety program; ability to maintain
accurate

Either:
Graduation
from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency
diploma and eight
(8) years experience in the development or implementation of employee safety or
accident prevention programs, two (2) years of which must be in an
administrative or supervisory capacity.
Note: Additional education will be substituted
for the non-administrative and non-supervisory experience on a year-for year
basis up to a maximum four (4) years.
At the time of appointment and during
employment in this title employees must possess a valid license to operate a
motor vehicle in New York State.
