DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class performs routine animal care in
the Veterinary Science program for the Community College. The incumbent is
expected to perform work independently but may contact a supervisor with any
problems. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Operates cage washers to clean and disinfect cages;
Maintains
cleanliness of the facility;
Maintains
animal records;
Assists in
the feeding, care, and handling of animals;
Observes
animals for general health status and notifies the program coordinator of any
observed problems;
Monitors
the facility for proper ventilation.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Some knowledge of the care and feeding of animals; some
knowledge of simple tools; some knowledge of cleaning equipment and supplies;
ability to learn and perform routine maintenance tasks; ability to understand
and follow instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of
the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Either:
(a) Completion
of thirty (30) credits from a college with federally-authorized accreditation
or registration by NY State, nine (9) of which must have been in Veterinary
Science; or,
(b) One
(1) year of experience and/or training in animal care and husbandry.
