DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under
general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for
fingerprinting and photographing inmates at Suffolk County Correctional
Facilities. Work is performed under the
direction of an administrative or technical supervisor. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL
WORK ACTIVITIES
Photographs and fingerprints prisoners;
Photographs and fingerprints
applicants for municipal employment;
Fingerprints civilian applicants for
state and federal licensing;
Prepares and forwards necessary
fingerprint cards to the required agencies;
Performs preventative maintenance on
all equipment;
Maintains files on fingerprints and
photographs;
Photographs and archives prints of
crime and accident scenes for investigations and court evidence;
Maintains inventory and requisitions
supplies.
FULL
PERFORMANCE, KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good
knowledge of the principles used in the taking of still and motion pictures;
good knowledge of a wide range of photographic and video equipment; knowledge
of computer software programs to prepare and edit images; knowledge of modern
principles and methods used in fingerprint classification; skill in the
operation of various types of cameras and lenses, both still and motion
picture; skill in the technique of taking fingerprints; skill in the care and
preventive maintenance of photographic equipment; ability to prepare written
reports detailing duties performed and assignments completed; ability to
understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Open Competitive
Either:
a) Graduation
from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY
State with an Associate’s degree in photography; or
b) Completion
of a certificate program in photography from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State, or from a
vocational school recognized by the New York State Department of Education, and
one (1) year of paid experience in taking, printing, and enlarging still and/or
motion pictures; or
c) Graduation
from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency
diploma, and two (2) years of paid experience in taking, printing, and enlarging
still and/or motion pictures; or
d)
An equivalent combination of education
and experience as defined by the limits of (a), (b), and (c).
NECESSARY
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
At
the time of appointment, and during employment in this title employees may be
required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York
State.
