DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Conducts investigations on cases being prepared by the District Attorney's Office on those matters that require a specialized technical or occupational skill.  The work differs from that of the Detective Investigator class in that the incumbent works directly for the District Attorney on highly sensitive assignments.  Possession of specific job skills is more important in this class than a general investigative background.  Work is assigned and reviewed by the District Attorney through written reports and conferences.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Conducts investigations of criminal matters that are of a sensitive nature.

            Utilizes specialized talents and job skills to do under-cover investigations.

            Maintains special contacts to assist in the gathering of information.

            Uses sophisticated electronic devices to gather evidence in the preparation of cases.

            Maintains equipment, records, ledgers, etc. necessary for specialized investigations.

            May testify in court.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the business, occupation, or particular type of criminal activity that is under investigation; some knowledge of the procedures and techniques of criminal investigation; ability to assume an identity in order to complete an assigned task without destroying the confidential nature of the investigation; ability to utilize prior associations to develop new channels for gathering information; ability to prepare information for use in Grand Jury proceedings; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in the exempt class; therefore, there are no minimum qualifications.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

            a) At the time of appointment and during employment in this title, employees must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.

     b) There will be qualifying medical and psychological evaluations.
