DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general supervision, an employee in this class performs investigative and security review duties for a school district.  The incumbent conducts background checks of potential employees and other investigations as directed by an administrative supervisor.  The incumbent also monitors existing security systems and makes recommendations for procedural and other revisions.  Work is reviewed by an administrative supervisor through conferences and written report.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            At the direction of an administrative supervisor, conducts background checks of potential employees and other investigations;

            Conducts investigations to verify an individual's exact place of residence;

            Oversees the operation of security systems, including monitoring security guards radio, checking security logs, spot-checking patrols and related security functions;

            Makes recommendations to supervisor in order to improve overall security or to deal with special security problems;

            May serve as liaison between the school district and the community on security matters and pending investigations.

Thorough knowledge of investigative methods and procedures; thorough knowledge of security systems, methods and procedures; skill at interviewing possibly hostile persons; ability to oversee the work of others and make constructive suggestions in manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; good judgment, tact, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.    

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN COMPETITIVE

            Either:

            a) Graduation from college with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field, and one (1) year of experience in investigative and security work; or,

            b) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and five (5) years of investigative and security work; or,

            c) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of a) and b).
