FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in
this class assists in the establishment and maintenance of emergency
preparedness operating procedures. The
incumbent assists in the development of management plans to address emergency
situations. Work is performed under the
direction of the Town Emergency Preparedness Coordinator and is reviewed
through reports and conferences. Does
related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Meets with local officials and
private individuals to gather information on available resources and plans for
coordination in times of need;
Maintains a list of resources and
equipment available for utilization by emergency agencies;
Maintains a directory of emergency
services;
Helps coordinate the emergency
programs of various departments within the locality;
Assists in organizing training
functions for schools, volunteer organizations and other agencies in the
locality;
Stands by at Suffolk County Emergency
Headquarters in Yaphank during emergency situations.
Good knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures associated with emergency preparedness programs; good knowledge of town facilities and geography; good knowledge of transportation methods within the locality; good knowledge of training and recruitment methods; some knowledge of business principles and techniques; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; ability to analyze facts and arrive at sound conclusions based on these facts; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
(a)Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and (3) years of experience in the administration of a public safety or emergency preparedness program.
