DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class indirectly supervises more than one bureau or unit within the District Attorney’s office and coordinates the conduct of investigations and the prosecution of cases by various investigative bureaus of the District Attorney’s office.  Alternatively, the incumbent may be assigned department-wide administrative responsibilities with simultaneous responsibility for oversight of a specific Bureau or Bureaus.  The incumbent is expected to use considerable independent initiative and judgment in the performance of duties.  Supervision is exercised over supervisory Assistant District Attorneys and Investigators.  Work is reviewed by the District Attorney or the Chief Assistant District Attorney through reports and conferences.  Does related work as required.

                 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

         Monitors the prosecution of cases and the conduct of investigations by more than one bureau within an operational division of the District Attorney’s office;

         Handles office-wide administrative responsibilities while overseeing a Bureau and/or a unit within the District Attorney’s office;

         Initiates and supervises in-house training programs for Assistant District Attorneys;

         May have responsibilities in the area of budgetary oversight, recommending and implementing personnel and office management policy and procedures, recruitment and conduct of in-service training programs;

         May engage in inter-governmental liaison activities;

         Recommends allocation of professional and clerical staff necessary to deal with the workload of a unit within the District Attorney’s office;

         May oversee office-wide adherence to management policy and procedure;

         Supervises preparation of budget and monitors office expenditures.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the laws of the federal, state and municipal governments; thorough knowledge of law related to felony prosecutions; thorough knowledge of court procedure and policy; ability to plan, supervise, coordinate and review the work of the staff and administrative personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in the exempt classification; therefore, there are no minimum qualifications.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Candidates must possess a New York State License to practice law before the Bar of the State of New York.
