DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class is responsible for administering all operations of the District Attorney's Office as directed by the District Attorney.  Respon­sibility is also included for assuming the powers and duties of the office of District Attorney in the event of his/her absence or inability to perform.  The incumbent is expected to exercise considerable independent judgment in the performance of duties.  Supervision is exercised over all Bureau Chiefs, Assis­tant District Attorneys, Detective Investigators, and clerical personnel.  Work is reviewed for conformance to departmental policies by the District Attorney through reports and conferences.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Performs the duties of the District Attorney in his/her absence;

          Represents the District Attorney, when necessary, at meetings of public and private organizations;

          Assists in the supervision and assignment of subordinate Assistant District Attorneys in the investigation, preparation and prosecution of cases for the District Attorney's Office;

          Assists the District Attorney in planning and administering all sections of the office;

          Makes appearances before the courts in connection with arraignments or trials, hearings and motions.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Comprehensive knowledge of the laws of the Federal, State and Municipal govern­ments; comprehensive knowledge of court procedure and policy; ability to estab­lish and maintain effective working relationships with county, state and federal agencies; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensu­rate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in the exempt class; therefore, there are no minimum qualifications.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a New York State license to practice law before the Bar of the State of New York.
