DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under the supervision of Assistant District Attorneys, an employee in this class assists in gathering and receiving electronic evidence of crimes, including but not limited to, Body-Worn Camera footage (BWC).  Responsibility is included for working on highly sensitive matters.   Work is reviewed by an Assistant District Attorney.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Gather and receive electronic evidence of crimes, including but not limited to, Body-Worn Camera footage (BWC);

            Review and redact electronic evidence and BWC in accordance with legal requirements and procedures established by the District Attorney’s office;

            Produce BWC and other electronic evidence to defendants in furtherance of the office’s duties under Article 240 of the Criminal Procedure Law, Brady requirements, office protocols and other legal and ethical requirements involving the prosecution of crime;

            Certify compliance with Criminal Procedure Law 245.20-1(g) 10 hr. rule and provide appropriate affirmations;

            Transport and store electronic evidence in accordance with SCDA policy and in accordance with applicable law.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the rules of Criminal Discovery and other associated laws affecting the release of privileged, confidential or sealed information from SCDA records; knowledge of legal terminology; knowledge of processes to expedite and ensure accuracy in the collection and distribution of evidentiary materials; ability to evaluate and draw conclusions from information and evidence; ability to work effectively under severe time constraints; ability to operate computerized evidence management systems; ability to read, analyze and interpret written material; and ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            Either:

            (a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor’s Degree; or,

 

            (b) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with an Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of experience working as a Discovery Expeditor in another District Attorney’s office or police department in New York State.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

At the time of appointment and during employment in this title, employees must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
