DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class performs professional work for
a Suffolk County, Town or Village Drug Court. The work involves coordinating
efforts of the District Court, Probation Department, Health Department,
District Attorney's Office and Legal Aid.
The employee works with these agencies in organizing drug education
material, assisting with security arrangements, addressing problems and collecting
information associated with Drug Court.
The incumbent reports client attendance rates to the courts. Work is performed under the direct
supervision of a Supervising Probation Officer or other administrative
supervisor and is reviewed through conferences and written reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Collects
data for research and evaluative purposes;
Maintains
court calendars and schedules;
Maintains
scheduling for Division of Drug & Alcohol Drug Education Series;
Maintains
log for the Court and Probation Department regarding urine-testing results;
Assists
in client control and security in support of counseling staff for Drug
Education Series;
Assists
in grant writing for the Drug Court Program;
Assists
clients in obtaining Medicaid certification;
Performs
studies on procedure and workload for the Drug Court Program;
Arranges for/or transports urine specimens from the Drug
Court to the Medical Examiners Office;
Works
with various agencies and court personnel in correcting administrative or data
collection problems associated with the Drug Court Program;
May
direct and manage the implementation of local drug courts;
Transports
Medicaid cards and applications for Probation Department, Health Department and
Social Services for clients associated with the Drug Court Program.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of the organization of law enforcement
agencies, District Court, Legal Aid and others; ability to analyze and evaluate
data and prepare reports; good knowledge of the modern principles and practices
of the administration of drug abuse treatment, prevention and education; good
knowledge of the trends, developments and current literature in the field of
drug abuse services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

COMPETITIVE
Either:
(a)
Graduation from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice; or,
(b)
Graduation from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree, and one (1) year experience
collecting or researching data in a criminal justice agency.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
At the time of appointment and during employment in this
title employees must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New
York State.
